Pixel Tablet Now More Agile with Android 14 Multitasking

Google has enhanced the multitasking function on the Pixel Tablet when using “Alt+tab” on a physical keyboard. This feature now displays a row of currently open applications at the top of the tablet’s UI for easier application switching. This recent improvement from Google is likely related to rumors suggesting a re-launch of the Pixel Tablet is imminent.

This improved multitasking feature was discovered by Mishaal Rahman of Android Authority. Rahman added that Google has revamped Alt+tab with a new UI in Android 14 QPR2. When this shortcut is used, a new horizontal row of applications appears at the top of the tablet screen.

Its functionality is similar to that on Windows PCs. Holding the “Alt” key and pressing “Tab” will display a row of applications and highlight the recently opened application. Continuing to press “Tab” will take the user through the available windows (applications).

Rahman stated that the currently selected application is highlighted with a gray frame. In addition, users who reach the end of the available application row using Alt+tab will find the “show more apps” option. This option indicates how many additional applications can be found for the quick discovery area.

Testing shows that the enhanced Alt+tab bar on the Pixel Tablet can only accommodate six applications at a time.

It should be noted that the way Android 13 uses Alt+tab is not very intuitive or functional. Instead of a row of recently used/opened applications at the top, the shortcut would display the “recent screen.”

The timing of Google’s enhanced multitasking support for the Pixel Tablet on Android 14 comes at a time when rumors suggest a product re-launch. Speculation suggests that Google is preparing to re-launch the Pixel Tablet without the charging speaker dock a few days before its I/O event. More importantly, this re-launch may finally bring long-awaited Pixel Tablet accessories.

It is possible that consumers can find a stylus and keyboard made by Google for this device. However, rumors say that the accessories will not be bundled, with a price of around €100 (approximately $107) each.

In other news, Google released Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2.1 in April. This patch is designed to address various tester issues, such as glitches, crashes, and charging problems.

The Google I/O 2024 event is scheduled for May 14th. Nevertheless, rumors suggest that the original Tablet re-launch might happen before that on May 10th.

The Pixel Tablet was launched as a device that could function as an on-the-go companion or a home-sitting friend. This tablet, along with its charging speaker dock, doubles as a convenient smart home display and a comfortable screen for watching videos.

Review Conclusion

With improved multitasking on Android 14, the Google Pixel Tablet offers a smoother and more efficient experience. Whether for work, gaming, or managing a smart home, the Pixel Tablet is now more robust with its new features.
