Bandung Brings Traditional Markets to the Digital Age: Pay Kiosk Fees by Scanning a QR Code!

Who says traditional markets can’t embrace technology? The city of Bandung is now proving otherwise! Through the innovation of Perumda Pasar Juara, paying kiosk fees in 37 traditional markets can now be as easy as scanning a QR Code. This is not just modernization, but a big step towards a more efficient, transparent, and certainly, contemporary market ecosystem!

Digital Transformation in the Heart of the Flower City

This initiative comes from Perumda Pasar Juara, the Bandung City market management company, which is committed to maximizing the collection of kiosk rental fees in its dozens of traditional markets. The President Director of Perumda Pasar Juara, Pradana Aditya Wicaksana, emphasized that the implementation of the QR Code Ruang Dagang (Trading Space) is a strategic step in improving and managing markets in Bandung City.

“This QR Code Ruang Dagang is not just for payments, but also to strengthen the merchant database and increase revenue potential from fees,” Aditya explained during the launch at Pasar Sederhana on Tuesday (04/06/2024). He added that this is the realization of their commitment to realizing sustainable performance through innovation, technology utilization, and collaboration, in order to create a ‘Technology-Literate Market’.

More Than Just Payments: Convenience for Merchants and Markets

No joke, there are around 27,000 trading spaces spread across 37 Bandung City markets that will feel the positive impact of this innovation. The implementation of the QR Code Ruang Dagang will be carried out gradually and is expected to be completed by September 2024.

“Imagine, you merchants no longer need to bother looking for cash or waiting in long queues. Just scan the QR Code in your trading space, and the fee payment is done in seconds! This will greatly facilitate the payment process and certainly boost the revenue of Perumda Pasar Juara,” Aditya explained optimistically. The presence of this digital platform, according to him, will simplify operations, increase transparency, and even expand market access. “I am optimistic that the QR Code Ruang Dagang can absorb kiosk fees up to 100 percent,” he affirmed.

Real Impact and the Future of Bandung’s Digital Market

How big is the impact? Aditya revealed an interesting fact. In markets that have partially implemented the QR Code Ruang Dagang, revenue realization before digitalization has increased significantly, from 14 percent to 70 percent! This figure shows the extraordinary potential of digital transformation.

“Digital payments are our effort to revolutionize the way of doing business in the market, driving efficiency, and increasing the competitiveness of merchants,” said Aditya. In addition, this digitalization is expected to improve overall market operational efficiency and provide better services to the community, especially the merchants.

Public Policy expert from Padjadjaran University (Unpad), Yogi Suprayogi Sugandi, also gave high appreciation. “In this digital era, the application of information technology has become a must. This is no longer an option, but a necessity to adapt to the times,” Yogi emphasized, fully supporting the innovative steps of Perumda Pasar Juara in the markets of Bandung City.

With this step, Traditional Markets in Bandung are not only preserving their local wisdom, but also embracing a brighter, more efficient, and modern future. Welcome to the Digital Market era, Bandung!
