Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is increasingly influencing the workplace in Indonesia, opening significant career opportunities in the future. Rohit Kalsy, Country Lead for LinkedIn Indonesia, stated that the adoption of AI technology plays an important role in the employee recruitment process.
According to the Work Trend Index 2024 report, 76% of leaders in Indonesia are more likely to recruit candidates with AI skills, even if they have less experience than experienced candidates without AI skills. In fact, 69% of leaders in Indonesia will not hire someone without AI skills.
AI Impact
Rohit explained that a new work culture encourages employees to improve their AI skills. LinkedIn membership that adds AI skills such as Copilot and ChatGPT to their profiles has increased 142-fold. In addition, there has been a 160% increase in the use of LinkedIn Learning courses by non-technical professionals to build AI proficiency. Mentions of AI in job opportunities on LinkedIn have also increased the number of job applications by 17%.
“The impact of AI is undeniable. Companies that empower employees with AI tools and training will attract the best talent, while professionals who improve their skills will excel,” said Rohit.
Meanwhile, Ricky Haryadi, Go To Market Lead – AI at Work & AI in Cybersecurity (ASEAN) Microsoft, mentioned that 92% of knowledge workers in Indonesia already use AI in the workplace, a figure higher than the global average (75%) and Asia Pacific (83%).
As many as 92% of leaders in Indonesia believe in the importance of AI adoption to maintain the company’s competitive advantage, compared to 79% globally and 84% in Asia Pacific. However, 48% of employees feel that leadership in their companies still does not have a clear vision and plan for the application of AI, lower than the global average (60%) and Asia Pacific (61%).
In response, 76% of employees in Indonesia are initiating bringing their own AI devices or solutions to the workplace. This trend could reduce the optimal benefits of AI if not used strategically and pose risks to company data.
In addition, the phenomenon of AI Power Users is increasingly prevalent. The report shows that 93% of power users in Indonesia use AI as part of their work routines, and 73% of them tend to be more interested in experimenting with AI, higher than the global average (68%) and Asia Pacific (51%).
