Apple is rumored to have big plans for the iPhone this year, primarily focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) and application changes in iOS. The tech giant plans to revamp at least four major applications with new designs and additional features. In addition, Apple also plans to bring significant interface changes to iOS 18, including to the Home Screen, as well as adding the Calculator app to iPadOS.
According to a report from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg via the Energy On newsletter, Apple plans to make massive improvements to iOS 18 ahead of its preview at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10th. AI remains one of the company’s main focuses to boost iPhone sales.
Although many papers have been published by Apple researchers, the company does not plan to introduce its own chatbot this year. Instead, they are back in discussions with OpenAI, likely to incorporate the GPT model for some AI features.
In addition to OpenAI, Apple is also reportedly in discussions with Google for Gemini AI and Baidu for Ernie AI specifically in China. The features that Apple plans to build are not yet known, but Gurman suggests the company wants to integrate AI into existing applications and offer features such as text generation, article summaries in Safari, and recaps of missed notifications. These features are likely to be part of Apple’s Ajax AI model, although they may also utilize AI models from OpenAI, Google, and Baidu.
In addition to AI innovation, Apple is reported to be updating four of its native applications – Mail, Notes, Photos, and Health. Details about these changes are not yet known, but design changes and the addition of new features are expected. Apple may also include new capabilities that allow users to pin applications anywhere on the Home Screen, not limited to the current grid.
It should be noted that the features and changes in iOS 18 have not been confirmed by official sources, and Apple’s vision for the next-generation operating system for the iPhone will only be revealed at WWDC 2024.
Review Conclusion:
Apple continues to innovate with iOS 18, bringing major changes to applications and sophisticated AI integration. Although still rumored, these plans demonstrate Apple’s commitment to improving the user experience and maintaining its competitive edge. Stay tuned for further clarification at WWDC 2024!
